Writings on the Series

The title of the exhibition, “Landing Lights,” refers to the high-intensity lights used to illuminate the runway surface for takeoff and landing, and also to help other pilots see the aircraft. To see and be seen.

In “Landing Lights,” black light or UV becomes a fundamental part of the work, necessary to fully see the composition. Its use in Mariana Sarraute’s works allows us to see layers that are otherwise imperceptible in some cases, and to enhance the fluorescence of certain brushstrokes.

In this exhibition, black light is also used as a symbol, referencing the Lamp of Darkness: a concept from Kabbalistic cosmogony concerning the light of the infinite, creator of the limited world — our world — while also giving the exhibition a playful, festive character, nostalgic for 80s discotheques and amusement parks.
